Behold reveals the hidden wild in everyday life, helping people see and connect with the animals around them. And when people connect, they protect. Small moments of wonder can lead to real change.

We’re looking for a skilled, creative mobile app developer who can take ownership of the hybrid app development at Behold, making our app work seamlessly with our physical Behold Cam-1 and remote services. If you want to work on a product that sparks real behavioural change, in a company that prioritises long-term impact over short-term growth, this is your chance.

We’re at the beginning with a small gang of four (across Denmark, UK and Latvia) with early investment secured and ~$400k in Kickstarter pre‑orders demonstrating real excitement and demand for what we want to do. There’s a lot still to shape across architecture, design, culture, ways of working, and we’re looking for someone who loves getting in early, where initiative matters more than set structures and curiosity often leads the way.

Who you are

We know no one is an expert in everything, so we’re looking for people who bring real depth in some areas and curiosity and willingness to learn in others. Whether your strengths lie in low-level performance, backend integration, or something entirely different, what matters is your commitment to learning, sharing, and growing with the team.

You’re a seasoned mobile developer who takes a hybrid-first approach, building with frameworks like React Native or Lynx for efficiency—while knowing when it’s essential to dive into native Swift (iOS) or Kotlin (Android) for performance or hardware features. You craft code suited to each platform’s quirks, understand the mobile lifecycle, memory management, and concurrency, and ensure apps feel smooth and reliable. Beyond technical skill, you communicate clearly, embrace feedback, and help the team grow as much as the code.

Security and privacy aren’t just checkboxes—they’re part of how you build. You have hands-on experience with cryptography standards like AES-GCM and ECC, managing secure storage using Secure Enclave or Android Keystore, and implementing authentication flows with OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect. You’re adept at creating local-first apps that sync gracefully, even on flaky connections, using tools like Core Data, SQLite, or Room. Perhaps your experience extends to multimedia challenges too, handling camera integration, video streaming, and playback optimisation with ease.

You think about sustainable engineering practices, not as an afterthought, but as part of how you architect and deliver features. For us, that means reducing server load, minimising energy consumption, and improving user privacy by keeping as much as is reasonably possible on the device. We think carefully about feature weight versus environmental cost, always considering whether a new capability justifies its ongoing impact.

You value thorough testing, continuous integration, and smooth deployment, employing automated frameworks like XCTest, Espresso or Detox. You know your way around app store submission rules and user privacy, always aiming to build accessible and inclusive experiences. On top of technical chops, you’re curious, fun to work with, and someone we can trust to take ownership and keep the team’s spirits high. Whether troubleshooting hardware interactions or leading key decisions, you’re ready to help shape Behold’s mobile experience into something meaningful for humans and animals alike.

We believe this is above average for most EU markets outside hubs like London or Copenhagen. We aren't currently planning to offer equity because Behold is built for long-term sustainability, not exit-driven rewards. While we agree on common rhythms to support teamwork, like having space for meetings between 11:00 and 14:00 CEST, we each shape our days in ways that suit our energy, responsibilities, and ways of working. There are no set limits on holidays, and we encourage people to work in alignment with their natural rhythm.
